Immigration Officers will begin to wear body cams – Aregbesola

Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, has announced that officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service will begin wearing body cameras in an effort to combat passport fraud in the country.

Aregbesola noted that the change was made to permanently end concerns about trouble acquiring passports from the NIS, as well as to eliminate touts from the system.

Aregbesola also revealed that the cameras would detect and report any kind of solicitation, inflation, illegal communications, extortion, diversion, hoarding, and other corrupt practices, and that an ombudsman would be formed for members of the public to receive feedback and reports on officers trying to deviate from established guidelines and subvert the method.

The passport collection deadline has been set at six weeks to enable immigration officials to investigate, verify, and confirm the applicants’ personal details.
