Man with R11 million in real gold pieces was apprehended at the SA airport.

A 33-year-old man will appear in the Kempton Park regional court on Monday after being apprehended at the OR Tambo International Airport with twenty three (23) pieces of real gold ,which is worth an estimated R11m , inside his luggage.

The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team arrested the suspect on Saturday, after the man, who was coming/travelling from Zimbabwe.

He was stopped, and asked to scan his luggage at the SA Revenue Service’s custom section at international arrivals, police said the quoted words below in a statement.

He allegedly failed to declare any items and did not have any permits or licences to be in possession or transport gold and the Hawks were called to effect the arrest and conduct further investigation.”

The preliminary investigation by the Hawks discloses that the suspected man travelled from Harare in Zimbabwe to Johannesburg. Also,the 23 pieces of gold were seized and collected for further investigation.
