Shocking! Rikkie Valerie Kollé, a transgender person, was crowned Miss Universe Netherlands 2023.
This year was the first time that a transgender contestant was chosen to represent her country in the Miss Universe competition.
Rikkie Valerie Kolle, a biological male who is 22 years old and identifies as a transgender woman, bested nine other competitors to earn the third-place finish in the history of the Miss Universe pageant, which has been held for 72 years.
“I DID IT,” Kolle declared in a message on his Instagram account. “I still can’t believe I get to call myself [Miss Netherland] 2023,” she said. It was a voyage filled with both learning and beauty… I have no words to adequately express how pleased and thrilled I am. Bringing pride to my community and demonstrating that it is possible.”
“And, sure, I identify as transgender and want to tell my experience; however, I am also Rikkie, and that is what is important to me. I accomplished this on my own and I cherished every second of it.
In recent years, males who are biologically male have been competing in beauty pageants that are traditionally reserved for women.
In the history of the Miss Nevada USA pageant, the year 2021 marked the accomplishment of the first biological male to ever win the crown. Kataluna Enriquez, who is 27 years old, triumphed over a total of 21 other participants.
Transgender contestants have been given the opportunity to take part in the Miss Universe Pageant ever since the year 2012. At the time, former President Donald Trump was still in control of Miss Universe, and he gave his blessing to the first transgender person to win the pageant. There has not yet been a transgender contestant who has been successful in winning the Miss Universe title.
