Who is Tope Alabi
Tope Alabi is a music composer,soundtrack composer and actress. Her full name is Patricia Temitope Alabi. She was born October 27th, 1970 to the family of Pa Joseph Akinleye Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi she is from Yewa, Imeko in Ogun state. She is their only daughter among three children. She is popularly known as “Ore to o common” and “Agbo Jesu “. She started singing at a very young age. She is a highly talented gospel singer whose singing lifts up the hearts of many. She has won so many souls through her music blessing the hearts of many.
In her early years, her mother wanted her to become a reverend sister having a vision that her daughter has been called to be God’s elect. Although, she later realized that putting her into the convent wasn’t the plan God has for her. Her mother passed away in 2017. She has really fond memories of her mother who she said kept her on the right path and helped her to grow in discipline.
When Tope was small she saw herself singing in stadiums with a large crowd listening to her. At a very young age she joined the choir in her local Catholic church realizing this is her calling in life.
Tope Alabi’s Education
She attended Oba Akinyele Memorial High School and obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) in 1986. After which, she went further to the Polytechnic Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated,1990.
Tope Alabi’s Early Career
At first, Tope wanted to become an actress while in secondary school, she joined a drama group in the school. Then joined the Jesters International group between 1982 and 1983 and was acting with Papilolo and Aderupoko.She also worked with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan between 1990 & 1991 as acorrespondent under the supervision of Mr. Yanju Adegbite. Shealso worked at NTA Channel 7 Tejuosho (Now NTA Channel 10,Lagos) between 1990 & 1991. Tope also worked with CenterspreadAdvertising Limited, at Ilupeju area of Lagos and worked with thisCompany within the year 1991 – 1992 and Re-Union NigeriaLimited, Gbagada, Lagos.
She decided to return to the theatre profession, as she became a part of the prestigious theatre group “Alade Aromire Theatre Group” 1994. This group played a major role of exposure for Tope. The group was really a training ground and an eye-opener for Tope Alabi as she was exposed to all the core areas of the drama and the acting profession helping her discover her talents in acting. She became involved in making stage dramas and in the making of sound tracks. She has also gotten invites from various writers, producers, and directors in the Yoruba movie industry to write and perform soundtracks for their various movies.
She has written a massive number of soundtracks for various movie productions in Nollywood in total, there are over 350 soundtracks where she is credited as a composer.

Tope Alabi’s Musical Career
She got a green light from the release of her Debut album “Ooreti O Common” in the year 2000. The track launched her fully into the music industry. She released another one four years later titled“Agbara Re Ni”. She always moves around with a pen and jotter because God often sends her ideas for the new songs.
The singer’s catchy gospel tunes first gained prominence more than a decade ago, and to this day, people consider her one of Nigeria’s gospel music geniuses. She can do everything with her music having a unique and recognizable voice and she can even create a few melodies by combining modern and traditional beats.
She has released some songs in the Yoruba language to the tunes of salsa, makossa, and hip-hop styles. According to her, she always prays prior to any stage performance and she has never performed without prayer because she understands the importance of prayer in delivering a powerful and spirit filled ministration. She never leaves her house without a pen and a paper because God sends her ideas for new songs.
Nigerians on Twitter crowned her the Queen of Yoruba language on May 21, 2019. This was a result of a competition by the United Bank of Africa in their 70th-year-anniversary celebration.
Tope has performed in several world countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. She is one of the most sought-after Gospel musicians in Nigeria today, and she performs in more than half of the Christian crusades and functions in the country.
Tope Alabi’s Family.
She is happily married to Soji Alabi. She met her husband in 1994( who was born in April 10 1974) while he worked as a studio engineer. Soji played a major role in her becoming a Christain he handles her soundtracks and albums with high professionalism. They started courting in 1998 and got married on November 16th 2000. They are blessed with three beautiful children two girls and a boy. They get involved in business together and handles it very professional and maturely.
Tope Alabi and her husband Soji run a music label, Tope Alabi Gospel Vibes. Under this label, they organise events and concerts where a lot of people come to worship and praise the Lord. One of them is the annual Praise the Almighty Concert.
Also, they established the Mardebra Comforter Foundation, a subsidiary of the Gospel Vibes. Through the foundation, Tope and her husband cater for orphans and the less-privileged.
Through their joint effort, Tope and Soji Alabi have been able to establish Johnpat Studios in Lagos.
